Dr. Asatar Bair serves as the Provost and Chair of the Admissions Committee  for the IAM University of the Heart and as the Executive Director of the Institute for Applied Meditation on the Heart.

He has been a student on the path of the heart for many years, and is a graduate of IAM Heart, as well as a certified teacher and mentor. He has served as a member of the IAM Heart Board of Directors, and has been an active member of Living Heart Media, IAM Heart’s publishing house.

Asatar holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he specialized in the economics of crime and punishment. His book Prison Labor in the US: An Economic Analysis, was published in 2008 by Routledge. He taught college courses in economic theory and statistics at the City College of San Francisco. He has received 6 awards for excellence in teaching, including Teacher of the Year.

Asatar grew up meditating, having been instructed at an early age by his father, Puran Bair and later by his stepmother, Susanna Bair; Asatar has practiced meditation daily since 1989. He has also studied T’ai Chi Ch’uan, and has been certified as an instructor by the Northwest T’ai Chi Ch’uan Association. In his spare time he enjoys running barefoot and working out with bodyweight exercises and kettlebells. He and his wife Felicity have  one daughter and one son.
