We sabotage ourselves and we hurt our own progress; we want to get close to someone, but then we push them away. We’re trying to accomplish something but we do things that are against it.
Then there are the things we do that are destructive toward our health, we smoke, drink alcohol, stay up too late when we know we have to get up early. These are things we do out of habit, denial, and weakness, not really out of ignorance. There are so many things we know are bad for us — we know it because we have seen the ill-effects on ourselves firsthand, not because of what someone told us — but we do it anyway.

Have you ever felt like you have truly, deeply known someone, like you’ve known them for a thousand years?
What a gift it is to have the sense that you know someone, truly, deeply, know them. And to be known is also a great gift; to feel that someone else sees you, understands you, sympathizes with your struggles, and Read more…

The ability to heal yourself or to heal another is an amazing, miraculous gift; and the ability to heal is a gift we all have.
As Susanna and Puran Bair put it in their wonderful book Living from the Heart:
It would be a mistake to think that healers are specially gifted people. Healing is a natural power that everyone has innately by virtue of their breath. Some people have developed their concentration, their breath, and the openness of the channel from the heart to the hand so that they can give the natural healing effect of breath to others. (p. 205)
In this same section of the book there is a brilliant discussion of the different ways to use breath, for example:
- to work with another person to speed their healing
- to charge your hands with magnetism, so that your hands can better direct the energy of your breath
- to absorb excess energy from a part of the body, and
- to add energy where there is too little.
Do you know someone who is in need of healing at this time?
Take a moment to send them love from your heart. If you want to do more, I recommend reading Living from the Heart for a great discussion of how to heal others using Heart Rhythm Meditation.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please share a comment below.
P.S. Have you heard about Susanna’s Invincible Heart 2013 Tour? You can learn more here.
